nero stops burning at around 1-3%

Hi, Ok I just bought an external LG dvd burner that I use on my laptop. I can shrink a movie ok and save it as a video and audio ts folder no problem. When I goto nero to burn it seems to start ok and my drive starts to work, after about 10 seconds it seems to just idle because the sound isn't so loud and the total percent down stops at around 1 or 3% however the remaining time still counts down. I have to manually hit abort and then it seems to freeze up and the nero doesn't stop all the way. Does anyone have any advice please? My brother has a laptop with an internal dvd burner and I have no problems using dvd shrink and nero. Also I don't use dvd decrypter on his and it still works fine. Thanks
