I'm new here so forgive me if I'm a bit off my rocker when trying to make this understandable! I bought a CD-R/RW just a little over a year ago and it has been working perfect. I wasn't keen on the "good" and "bad" types of CDs you can get, but I had been using Imation and TDK and they both worked well for me... About 3 months ago I bought pack of Maxwell and just tried to burn a disc and it burns and gives the "completed" message, but it says the CD is blank and when it's put into my stero it also says it's blank. Could this just be a problem with the Maxwell brand? I'm hopping for a little help before I spend more $$ on CDs that won't work. I uninstalled my driver and program and reinstalled and it still does the same thing.
hia and welcome. pls post LAST section of your Nero log, which is in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar ..then i or one of the other guys can help you out....
Here's the log.. I think this is all. The music I'm trying to burn was ripped from brother's CD.. it couldn't be something wrong in the ripping? That may sound stupid, but willing to try anything, LOL! - if you're only doing CD's, version 5 is fine, however the last update i remember ever using was 5.5.10.78 i think, so you are way out of date. see if you update to latest 5.5.10.x update - your firmware is 2 revisions behind, 140M is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1444 - DMA needs to be ON. fix it via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm - omg!, 126MB is barely sufficient for XP. you're gonna have to try to free up more memory prior to burns, though that'll be hard with only 128MB to start with.. - if the other recommendations don't solve the problem, try different media - wow, the most i do for audio is 16x, the most for data is 24x - i don't think i've ever seen buffer underrun quoted as being avoided. see if other recommendations work. if not buy more memory - see previous comment
Thanks for your reply! I installed the 140M, but don't know how to turn my DMA on. I went into the Device Manager and though I had did it, but the new log still say it's off. I downloaded a program to free up RAM and since I did that my PC is loading faster. Also, do you know anywhere I can download a newer update for Nero? I was at there site and tried to get 5.5.10.56 but it wouldn't download and I searched other boards and none of the links would download... I also changed the speed to 16x and tested and still nothing... - try this way, but be [bold]very[/bold] careful with regedit.... - oh no, which program is this, some of these programs are bad news - 5.5.10.42 is here - http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=nero - as i said before, - omg!, 126MB is barely sufficient for XP. you're gonna have to try to free up more memory prior to burns, though that'll be hard with only 128MB to start with.. - see if other recommendations work. if not buy more memory
