Hello all, im using nero 8 on vista, used the trial package first and worked fine so got the full version. Problem is now when i try to add video files it allows me to find the file but when i click on open, nero vision closes and returns me to the StartSmart.

However this is not the case with all the video files only certain ones. Any suggestions would be great

Yea that burn was fine, usually there all good. However the problem occurs when i try to add the video files. I get to the window asking me to add video files. I open this window, find the video i want to add and click on it. The adding files image pops up for 2 seconds and then all of a sudden closes the vision programme. I dont think it creates a log file from this stage. Its weird because some files are fine and some cause this problem

Sorry i couldn't help. mark down the file extension of the ones that won't work and email nero, they just might answer. They could be an unsuported file type.

    MMCQ:

I have experienced the same problem with v7 and v8. Nero Tech Support has recommended the following and while it has improved my experience, Tech Support is still working to resolve the problem for me.

    1) v8.1.1.4 and v8.1.1.0b are more stable than v8.0.0.0, so update.
    http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads-nero8-update.php

    2) Defrag...Defrag...Defrag.
    3) Download and run CodecSniper.exe and look for
    a) Broken Video codecs
    b) Excessive or codecs incompatible with Nero.

    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Codec_Sniper

    4) Download NeroSupport.exe and submit to Nero a NeroSupport.cab
NeroSupport.exe v8 is not as reliable as v7 was, has bugs and doesn't work on all computers, so look for the "NeroSupport.cab file on your desktop" not there...probably didn't work.

    http://www.nero.com/enu/downloads-infotools.html

    5) My experience with aborts like you describe has been that no "Log" file is created because the program aborts...dah!

Once Germany and Glendale advise me of a better fix I'll repost.
    Best of Luck.

thanks for the post. i have the latest version, nero tech asked me to try a clean install but didnt make a difference just waiting to hear back from them. I tried the codec sniper but to be honest not sure how to use that, when i load it up i dont see anywhere to search for codecs or none are displayed. I have created the nerosupport file and when i hear back i will send it to them. Cheers for helping its getting really frustrating.

My CodecSniper verbally says "Welcome" when opened and Head Shot when closed and displays data in columns similar to:
    Nr - Class Name - Filename - FourCC - Version - Status

01 DirectShow Nero DigitalAVC Video Decoder v8.00 OK

with the data in columns directly below each label...If not...try downloading Codec_Sniper.exe from a different website, maybe yours isn't compatible with Vista or became corrupted during download...If not... ugh#.

You might also try downloading GSpot.exe (freeware as well).

Within your NeroSupport.cab file, extract the file labeled dxdiag.txt and about half way down you should find "DirectShow Filters" this is the list of codecs presently installed on your machine. Codecs "Source files" can also be found under your Hardware/Devices settings/Video Codecs.

Nero Tech Support (Paid @ $1.29/min & Germany Tech support), for me, have about a 2 week turn around between emails...So hopefully you have patience.

Many speak highly of Gwendolyn on this website...Maybe she can help.

    Good Luck
