I am transcoding my old (not copy protected) Music DVDs using NV5 by copying the vob-Files from the old DVD onto my harddisk, loading them into Nero Vision, adding some nice menus and finally transcoding them into a new dvd. Well, the first one transcoded in just 57 minutes and played just fine on both PC and standalone player. But since then Nero Vision has produced not a single playable DVD anymore. In the Pre-Transcoding simulation everything works fine, but transcoding time now lays between 1,5h and 2,5h without any errors, and the discs coming out at the end (I don't burn them directly, I let NV5 put the files in a DVD menu on my HD first to test them) are not playable. The DVD starts on PC (PowerDVD 6) and the menu comes up, but when I click on any chapter, the clip starts for ca. 1 second, before PowerDVD stops playing. I tried various variations (animated menus, not animated menus, with intro, without intro) - all ended up the same. I event burned one variation on a DVD+RW and tested it in my player - after 1 second of video the player freezes.
After several try-outs I can say that the problem with NV5 is, if you put too much stuff (moving clips, f/x between the menu-pages etc.) into the menus, the resulting dvd is not playable anymore. It's bad, that you have so many possibilites to individually design your own dvd but it's technically limited...
