Opening .avi files is no problem in Nero for me but any time I try to open an .mp4 file whether in Nero Vision to try and put it on DVD or even in Nero Showtime to watch it I get this error: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero Showtime\NeroShowtime.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. (When I use Nero Vision substitute 'Nero Vision' for 'Nero Showtime' in the above error). I have the latest version of Nero 7 Ultra Edition. I have uninstalled, used the Clean program, installed with and without InCD. I have tried to disable my virus scanner and firewall. None of these things have worked. I use to have Roxio on my computer but have taken it off. Still nothing. I can get these files to play on my VLC media player but not on my Windows Media Player, that one doesn't even register they exist. I'm not worried about that but thought I'd add that info in in case it's helpful. I've read in a many posts about copying your history log on to here to help but I'm not sure how to do that. Many thanks, Jane
In addition, as per another's suggestion, I have tried to add ffdshow and Haali but both have not changed the Nero situation at all (although they have helped in that windows media player now plays mp4s). I've given up and 'converted' to ConvertXtoDVD, which has worked nicely. Though it is still a major curiosity as to why these mp4 files will not open in any of my Nero 7 programs. So many people seem to love Nero and yet, I have had nothing but headaches since I purchased it. If anyone has any ideas as to why Nero won't open an mp4 file for me, I would love to hear it! Cheers, Jane
Maybe it's just corrupted. Did you try uninstalling, running the version Clean Tool, and the Driver Clean Tool and then reinstalling the current version from Nero.com (if you have Nero 7); otherwise 6.6.0.18 from here: Package 1: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2: http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe or Package 1: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe There may also be a few variations of mpeg4 files that Nero cannot handle iirc.
I have tried the uninstall and Clean tool process with no change. I found that Nero had no problem opening it as an audio file. In fact when I tried it in Showtime, though the error would come up, as long as I didn't click on it, I could listen to the file. So I looked closer at the details for this particular file. Does this shed any light on the puzzle? Audio: mpeg4aac, 48000 Hz stereo Video: h264, yuv420p 640x352 I thought that Nero was able to handle h264 files. Many thanks, Jane
Nero does use H264 itself. Nero Showtime is pretty easy to break which is why many don't use it for viewing. Not working in Nerovision is a puzzler. You're not alone in having trouble with Nero. I use it only because I help people with it; otherwise I use other programs like ConvertX, etc. You might try uninstalling FFDShow and your codecs and then reinstall the K-Lite Codec package which includes FFDShow and all the filters.
