I have a new hard drive. And a zippy new burner. One that came with an almost-as-zippy version of Nero7Essentials (includes LightScribe, but not much else). My Da installed the Nero 7 when setting up the new hd.

I used to use Nero6 - the full suite (purchased - dld with legit serial). I'm missing some of the features it offered that aren't a part of the free Essential pack.

Can I install Nero 6 and keep both versions 6 and 7_Essentials? Will they behave as separate programs? Or will having both in there likely cause the new hd to combust?

(I have an external hd as well - just in case it makes a difference.)

Thanks, Rotary, for taking the time to read/reply.

Yeah - I thought it sounded like it should start with "here...hold my beer."

I use nero for all my copying, burning and converting. I couldn't care less about all the player or photo managing options - I use VLC and my photo files are beyond help.

What prompted this question is that the Nero7Essentials option to convert avi to a file type (is it mp4?) that plays in my stand alone DVD has expired, as well as the one that converts flac to something that will play in car's CD. I used to just tell it to "make a DVD' or "make a CD" and it went to work. (Clearly I'm the one click kind of user - not well versed in file types, though I'm trying and willing to learn more.)

After reading here a bit, I've dld, but not installed, Img Burn, but I'd really prefer just have one program. But the LightScribe is in Nero7.

On your recc, I'm dlding dvdflick. Is there anything I should know about installing it alongside Nero? I learned (the hard way) about the Nero/Roxio clash.

Thanks very much for the advice. Still a little sad I can't do it all with my rather beloved Nero6 (old dog, old tricks). I rarely use the LightScribe as the discs are rather expensive for the kid's stuff. I wish there was a program just for that, and I could dump the Nero7Essentials.

Anyway - thanks again - this is a brilliant site. Wish I knew enough to help out instead of always asking. One day, perhaps....
