I have 3 questions about Nero, VOB, IFO and BUP Files.

I looked at the first VOB file in the folder.. and it is the movie with directors commentary. I read on the net, that VOB, IFO, and BUP are streaming, and the real movie audio is there, i just cant hear it if i try to play the VOB file.
    1. Is this true, is the real aduio of the movie there or..?

    2. If it is, how do i burn these using Nero?

    3. I normally burn with dvix, I can fit 6 movies on a disc. but they arent readable via dvd players cuz i make it into a datadisc, how do i get the movies in dvd form, instead of datadisc form?

Use the GLOSSARY tab above and you will get the definitions of VOB, IFO, BUP files! Then you will know the answers to your first question. These are DVD compliant files. Another words, these files on a DVD will play in players. This is not a data DVD ..... it's DVD compliant which will play properly on standalone DVD players and alike.

You can use Nero Recode to fit your DVD titles on a DVD! Here is a guide for you:
guide for Nero Recode .. multiple movies:
    http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/44/59/

    you can also use Shrink:
guide for shrink ... multiple movies:
    http://webpages.charter.net/bacitup/TheG...VD Shrink.pdf

DviX is a different format..... and the files are smaller so you can fit more onto a DVD by burning as a Data DVD. If you are going to fit movies on a DVD compliant disk then you have to consider quality. Fitting more than 2 movies on a disk will lower your quality considerably. I wouldn't put more than 2 titles on a disk.

the alcohol guide is missing a few images.. probably a few minor, yet important steps.. in those images..

Alkahols guide caught my eye right away when i seen the topic.
there are a few images in it not loading tho.. i dont know what to do for those steps..

Gwendelins guide is really bare bones but good too.

So, using either one of those methods, which are basically the same thing, i can only have like 2 movies per dvd?

    thanks man...

    heres an update..
i made a dvd disc with the vob files.. i used Nero recoder 1
    working great beav!

but on converting avi's to dvd disc.. im having a little trouble.

I followed alkohols guide step by step.. and on the burning screen(wheather im burning to disc or to hard drive)It takes forever to burn... i mean, its like stuck on the burning screen... Over 2 and a half hours went by and neither progress bar had even 1% done..
While the top of the screen stil showed
    Creating Menus and Trancoding Streams
Burning project onto the disc(or hard drive) I tried both methods..
Now one mistake i made is the 2 movies go over my alotted space.. one movie is 717mb and the other is over 900mb. I figured i would use Nero Recoder to encode the dvd later. before my final burn.

So im not sure what the problem is.. I didnt bother changing the video quality.. should I? And should i go dvd-5 4000mb or dvd-7 8000mb? or whatever the numbers are...The 2 movies dont fit in 4000mb, but they do fit inside of the 8000mb choice. I also seen i can make a custom size.. like 5,170mb if i wanted, so not sure where im messing up

almost all programs are closed.. except nero indexing services.. nero BGmonitor and the nero startsmart. What could it be.. Does it take over 2 hours for not even 1% progress? Does it depend on my computers speed and memory? I keep think it is freezed up but i can bring up task manager really quick.

I have plenty of free hard drive space for the temp file also, as in the past, that problem plagued me thanks, Sleepless in Seattle

What version is your Nero? Is it 6.6.0.18 or 7.0.1.4? Can you post your Nero's error log by chance? To get the very last section of your Nero logs, go here: c:\Programs Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory (for Nero 6 Ultra), or C:\Programs Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory (for Nero 7 Ultra). Now just EDIT out your Nero serial before you're going to post back here.

I have Nero 7, so it is under C:\Programs Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory right? I looked in that folder.. i dont see anything... Perhaps i didnt save a log? no error msges came up either...

UPDATE: I did a file search for NeroHistory and it is found in(for me at least with Nero 7)
    C:\Documents and Settings\MyWindowsProfile\Application Data\Ahead\Nero Burning Rom

    enable your DMA: http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues

    firmware update to PSOB: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2175

Use better media....I suggest along with your firmware update on your drive you should use MIJ media (made in Japan). Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim are the best! you'll be surprised at how many problems go away when you use better media!

you don't have much memory and you are using 82% of it up! No wonder Nero crashes on you! go to the Task Manager and shut down all unnecessary tasks and programs running in the background, no multi tasking, no internet and even shut off your anti-virus programs while burning! Adding more RAM would be nice!

do these changes and Nero will work better for you! good luck!

ok i fixed the dma issues.. and yesterday morning i made a dvd...
    very cool thank you

i found that Nero Vision does crash stil from time to time, thanks to our computers low memory.. but as long as i watch task manager, and make sure all programs are closed, and 1 pesky(program/spyware, trojan/malware helpdesk/center likes to popup from time to time all by itself.)

So i have to keep an eye on task manager and close it if it starts to run and uses all the memory...
My first dvd works like a charm...

My second dvd, not so well... I took 2 tries thanks to helpdesk randomly running at odd times...but i got done with it.
The second dvd has 2 movies and a menu with picture and a 3 minute wav that plays in the menu. The dvd makes a weird sound as it spins... Spinning constantly because of the wav that plays.. im assuming..
Next time i wil leave animation and audio out of the menu for better playback performance..

I also used super glue to put a label on the disc.. It is fit on there nice and tight and secure.. Would that possibly be making the weird sounds as it spins? It doesnt look like any of the paper is sticking up rubbing against the top of the players tray tho, so just a thought.

And the playback of the actual movies is choppy in parts... Halpdesk popped up, and paused the burn for a sec..(my guess) and i did only 1 pass, on the first disc i think i did 2 passes..
but otherwise i finally can make dvds.. 2 movies on a disc only kinda sucks... but the first dvds quality cant be matched by my 6 movies on a disc data style...their quility sucks..
    Thank you for the help!!!

YOur welcome and welcome to afterdawn.....

It is highly recommended that you don't ADD labels to CD/DVDs as it will hinder the player from reading the disk. that's why you are getting pixelations and soon it will be freezing the player from reading the disk. if you want labels on your CD/DVD the best way is to buy the disks already printables and you can print right on top of the CD/DVDs straight out of the printer! You will have to buy a printer that has an attachment to put the disk on and it will print directly onto the disk. I have the Epson R320 and the R380 that prints onto the disks directly! here are some of my disks:

they have shiny watersheild printables, white inkjet hub printables, and shiny silver printables ....take your pick!

another problem.. Nero keeps crashing while i try to burn discs. I had task manager open, and there was plenty of memory available at the time of the crash...I literally closed ALL programs(besides task manager)before starting the process. I even kept task manager open, to close any programs that like to randomly start running. I even unplugged the internet, and closed the firewall. Still, i should of enough memory, i have 112mb memory and Nero uses around from 30-60k tops, and at any one time there was around 80k being used. I fixed the dma issue with the primary and secondary thingies...

here is my latest Nero History Log...

    To quote IHoes comments

    Also
You have Roxio installed, it clashes with Nero, to remove, run this zapper http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

I have Roxio? What is that? some spyware/malware?
I'm fairly computer savvy, i know how to get rid of most spyware and stuff easily, i knew to erase my serial number from my post...unlike most ppl, and i can usualy fix most of my computers ailments...
I've never heard of this program....Roxio, before coming to this website
    What is it?

The download say i must uninstall roxio manually first, then use the zap program..

UPDATE: ok, it said it was uninstalling easy cd creator 4 and 5
I also defragmented the hard drive last night

I have a max of 111mb(128 actually, but the computer shows 111)

During the transcoding and burning process, I have an extra 40-50 mbs of memory at any time...
Nero only uses upwards of 60-68mbs.

I close all other programs and watch the task manager, and even close the task manager if it uses too much memory.

I defragemnted the hard drive and ran that roxio zapper, it said it was uninstalling easy cd creator 4 and 5.
