Does anyone know of where I can download the driver/firmware for the rt114 that does NOT use VLC media player to open and install. Netgear presents the file in a zipped file which in turn opens VLC. VLC CANNOT read these types of files, period. Can anyone provide me with a link to the software that uses the conventional RUN, NEXT, NEXT, WIZARD, FINISH, series of dialog boxes. I emailed NETGEAR but so far no answer. Thank you.

change the association from vlc to zip so unzip works or extract the file(s) using windows.

I tried opening the file from NETGEAR and a third party site using IE. OPERA, WORDPAD. ALL STILL open the file in VLC after the zipped folder is opened. I do not see a way around this. If I cannot open the file then this router is of no use to me.

It IS a netgear RP114 wired router. The site DOES list it and DOES present the zipped file. The file to download is as I said presented in VLC media player. I do not know if the file you found will work. If you think so then I will take the link. I will not know if it works until I try it. This router will serve as a backup in the event my DELL ever dies. It will probably be installed on another tower. I hope netgear will be able to help. Thanks.

here is my email address--- edited by ddp--- I will not know if your files will work until I try it. Again it IS a RP114 wired router. I will let you know if it works. I plan to use this as a back up.

    1. I hope you get to your post and remove your e-mail address before you start getting Viagra ads. ddp asked you to pm it to him not post it in the thread.

    2. Did you try opening your archive program and then opening the archive?

I realize that most people have become lazy (or ignorant) and rely on windows to pick the correct application association, but this is a perfect example of what happens when it goes wrong.

I am not set up for pm. Sorry if I got someone in trouble. I will not do it again. As a newbie I must request that you please explain what and how I access the ARCHIVE. Since the software is presented in VLC which I cannot open, does that mean it was still downloaded to the archive? I use FIREFOX to download software/programs. Under TOOLS/DOWNLOAD is where all downloaded programs are stored. Is that what you call the ARCHIVE? I would not think so. More help please.

ddp--- I am sorry. I am not set up for pm. I received the 3 files you sent me. They are the same files the NETGEAR site provides. Again the needed file was presented in VLC and again I cannot open it. Please explain what you mean about changing the file association, and how I do it. If I find it too difficult I will toss this unit. I will find another eventually that uses the conventional dialog boxes and wizard. VLC is useless as presently configured. This was to be a back up, a spare, in case my DELL ever dies. It is not all that important. I will not drive myself nuts.

WINDOWS XP PRO.32 bit. SP2. IE6. When you mentioned PM I thought you were referring to a third party service like YAHOO or MS MESSENGER, neither of which I use. I now understand that the PM is built into this forum system. I will use it if asked.
