I have some of my son's DVD's that I would like rip and play on my laptop hard drive. After reading many threads and other site's information, I'm a bit overwhelmed. I have DVD shrink, DVD Decrypter and ImagBurn that I downloaded in hopes of getting started. I'm still not even sure of the difference in Shrink and Decrypter at the moment. Especially for simply playing a ripped file on my hard drive. Here's what I'm wanting to do: 1. Rip the DVD movie for playing on my hard drive. I just want a single file that I can click on in order to watch the movie. Not really even worried about the 'extras', etc. 2. After watching it on the hard drive, I wouldn't mind reburning to another DVD blank disc, but could do that later. 3. May also try to get the DVD file off the hard drive and transfer to my son's iPod. Maybe someone could give me a good 'idiot's overview' and then point me to a guide or two b/c it seems as though there are lots out there.
Use DVDFabDecrypter to rip the disk to the hard drive. Insert disk, run program, select 'Main Movie' http://209.172.35.173/download/DVDFabHDDecrypter3108.exe View the movie on your PC using your DVD software player. If you wish to burn the files back to disk (assuming this is a backup of a commercial movie disk), run DVD Shrink, open the folder and click 'Backup'. It will shrink the files down to fit on a single layer disk. If you also have DVD Decrypter installed, Shrink will offer to use same to burn the disk. IMGBurn is the 'burning' part of the old DVD Decrypter and can be used to burn DVD files from .iso images or DVD folders. DVD Decrypter is good ripping program, but has not been updated for years, hence will have problems with newer movies.. I don't have an IPod, so I leave that to others.
Thanks attar. Looks as though DVD Fab also has an iPod feature, so if this works out I'll test drive and maybe purchase. A followup... I used DVDFab and chose main movie. I browsed to C: Drive and created a folder to hold the movie and it created an AUDIO_TS and a VIDEO_TS. Is that correct? I think I figured out a way to use my dvd software to browse and grab it and hopefully play the video files correctly. I was wondering, when I click on the button to the right of where I say to save the file to (a disk / paper icon), it looks like it should create an ISO file. Is that correct? Or would the ISO only happen with a Full Disc selection. A bit confusing, but I think I follow. Thanks
The audio folder is empty.It's there for some historical reason. DVDFab,It will create an iso if required.
DVDFab will create an ISO file if 'I' require it or if the 'software' requires it? I couldn't find a feature where I could choose the file type like I would see in DVD Decrypter mode settings. Is haveing an one ISO over the multiple Video_TS files something I should even care about? Thanks
The choice is yours; the 'Folder' which has the vob, ifo, bup files broken out or the ISO which is the same thing only in the format of a DVD image, ready to burn. Just like Decrypters File or ISO mode; but since DVD Shrink will accept either it makes no odds. I don't know about software players, but I assume they will take either.
