Hi folks, iv been googling this to death and im just getting confused and anoyed so hopefully someone can help+ i wasent sure if this should be here or inthe windows section? Anyway iv just built a computer= q6600 abit motherboard 7gb ram(motherboard had 4 slots and i had some extra ram,bit overkill?) 80gb seagate hd and 500gb external+a 640gb internal on the way low end graphics card,pcie. few fans to keep it cool. anyway i swapped my hd from an old comp to this one, and on boot this apears NTLDR and and press controll ,alter,delete to restart.Id forgot this had ahppened on the old comp before i shoved it to the back of the cuboard, so i tried to install vista 64 anyway= changed bios setting to boot from cd-rom hard drive as 2nd boot so i do this then f10 to save and restart next thing comes up saying press any key to boot or continue? i do that and a loading bar apears then goes to a blue screen(of death as it says all over google) Now is this due to my hard drive and the NTLDR? Is it vista itself? im so frustrated,iv had trouble with parts not arriving and so on and i finaly get it all and this happens!i have clumps of hair in my hands and im getting greener by the minute!
First off, don't use 7GB of RAM, throwing in any old memory in a system is a sure-fire way to make it unstable. Stick with 4GB (I won't say 8, as you don't have it, nor will you use that much!) With a new PC, it's always wise to install a fresh operating system on a blank hard disk. Are you doing this?
Not always, but it's strongly recommended - I generally recommend it if you're making a major chipset change. If you're replacing a board with the same model it's fine, and if you're upgrading from P35 to X38 for example, or 650i to 680i, it's fine, but not for any larger upgrade spans than that.
Yep, flawlessly. Hell, I know some people that have gone from nforce 4 ultras to P35s and all they've had to do is reactivate windows because they changed the CPU, Mobo and RAM all at once!
yeah it took me a while to decide if i wanted vista or 2 stick with xp, but the gf likes visa and i suppose im going to let her use it now and again lol, well she did pay for half.
