I just built a new computer with your guys help. Now after a while ive noticed that every time I click on a website there is a whining noise coming from the computer. Anyone know what that is?
its defiantly coming out of the PC. It sounds like a laser beam in a movie, like zzzzzzzzzz. Very high pitched though and it happens every time i change web pages or open a program. Every time it has to think.
Mine does it under stress... tracked down to the cpu heatsink being mounted slightly out of line... Still does it sometimes but doesn't seem to do any harm.
it also MIGHT be ur graphics card, i haven't heard of it happening too much but when mine is under heavy stress (like if I'm folding@home or something) my gfx card gives off this high pitched whine. Just a thought...
Here are my specs i7 920 CPU: EX58-UD3R Mobo 6GB Corsair XMS3 XFX Radeon HD4870 1GB WD5000AAKS 500GB HDD Corsair 650W TX PSU Antec Three Hundred Illusion I removed and reinstalled the heat sink. It gives off a sawing sound from my computer every time I change web pages or load a game.
I took a paper towel roll and listened to where this high pitched buzzing sound is coming from and im almost positive its the power supply. Maybe that would explain why my computer didn't start when i first built it. I guess that means i need to get a hold of new egg. When I said sawing I meant like that high pitched noise when your using a power saw to cut a piece of wood. only a lot quieter.
Could potentially be that the PSU was damaged in transit. Newegg's couriers are known to be a bit rough with things.
Does this sound like it could be legit? I was hoping I could get a second opinion before i jump into something I have no knowledge of
If you want to pin point & get closer to where you think the source is unless your positive of what the cause is, try some flexible rubber or neoprene tubing your local automotive parts supplier should have some or hardware store, automotive vacuum hose is about what you need tho you can get similar size in clear plastic neoprene
what is vrm and where is that located? Is that near the psu? Here is something i noticed: scrolling through all my music on itunes causes the noise. Does that help in anyway?
It's at the top of the motherboard, so if your PSU is at the top it's very near the PSU. If your PSU mounts at the bottom, but your motherboard mounts the normal way round, then it's not very near the PSU at all.
No, VRM stands for Voltage Regulation Module. It is usually heatsinked, and is between the back of the PC and the CPU.
Well im positive its coming from the psu. IS it safe to disable C1E? I dont even know what that is. And I looked in the BIOS mode and I cant find it. Does that make any sense?
