I just installed a new graphics card 'Nvidia FX5900XT Golden Sample' Supposed to be the dogs bol***ks, but my pc is now running at a snails pace. I've checked loads of things, driver updates etc but can't seem to solve it. Anyone had this problem and how did you cure it?
Yikes! Not what you were hoping for, A-K...? Did you have nVidia graphics previously (or, ATI)? You know the drill, nForce Chipset v5.10 and Forceware 61.77 WHQL. They recommend uninstalling previous, rebooting, installing new (with any & all antivirus disabled). But you know this stuff I s'pose... Is your FX5900 an Asus? I use their Smartdoctor, it's great for vidcards. Maybe the timings are mucked up or ? Maybe the video BIOS was flashed or something, Golden Sample, what does that mean? Good luck bro, Regards
'Golden sample' is supposed to mean that the dog has extra big bol****s. Better than the normal version. It bloody should be for £136.00 as well. I've narrowed the problem down to the fact that the hard drive is running in PIO mode. I've clicked on 'Dma if available' but it doesn't seem to be working. I did have an Nvidia card before this one but it wasn't very good on some of the games. I only twigged that it must be in pio mode when I went to burn off a dvd from the hard drive ready for a fresh xp install, and it took 40 minutes at 8x speed. How can I force it back into 'DMA' without having to re-install xp?
nForce Chipset drivers v5.10 will install nVidia IDE driver 4.46 (WHQL) What has changed with your harddisk - is it still alone on the controller? You have read, I'm sure, all the problems people are having master/slaving drives (specifically DMA DVD burners with DMA DVD readers) giving PIO results. For your A7N8X-X I would use the nForce chipset package from Nvidia, but not their nVidia System Utility - for that stuff, if you require, I would use Asus (PC Probe etc.) Should be able to get stuff running good okay, but WTF You needed fresh install anyway LoL What if you still have that problem - you better check it out first, try to make it work... LMAO I'm not sure what it means exactly, but I can guess, LoL L8R
Problem solved. Had to uninstall the hard drive in 'device manager', reboot and let windows find and re-install the hard drive. It's back running in DMA mode now. I'm off to do some serious gaming now to see what this baby can really do. Thanks for the help The_OGS By the way, this graphics card has to be connected directly to the power supply unit because of the power drain. _X_X_X_X_X_[small] Athlon XP2500+Barton OC'd to XP3200+ running at 2.2Ghz Cooled by Thermaltake Extreme Volcano 12 Asus A7N8X-X 1Gig 400DDR Ram 160Gb Seagate Barracuda[/small]
