    Hi all
I installed a new Samsung SP1614N 160gig hd, and wanted to keep my second hard drive a Maxtor 20gig to store files and such, however with the 2 drives installed i cant boot past the splash screen, i have jumpered the new drive as master and the second drive which doesnt have an OS installed as slave. I was using this configuration with my old HD without any problems, have i the drive jumpered wrong should i set both as cable select?
I can do without the 20 gig drive if it will save a lot of hassle but i would like to get the files transferred onto the new drive
    Any help greatly appreciated

    Hi
I have 2 drives and i also installed a new dvd rewriter a nec 3540 drive as well which i set as slave, i thought this might have been the problem??? i changed this to master and set the other dvd drive as slave when i removed the other hd, so that might have also been the problem. I have been using a second drive as a backup for years without any problems, could it be the rewriter that could have been the problem? I suppose the only real way to test it is to install the second drive and see what happens,i'll report back

    Hi
Quick update i reinstalled the second hard drive and rebooted the machine 6 times without a problem. The problem must have been with the NEC3540 being set as slave, sorry i never mentioned it in the first post i didnt think that it was in any way related, but i seem to have been proven wrong
