    Hey guys/gals,

I know that several of you have answered this question several times and I have read all your comments on the subject of Coping my DVDs to a backup and I would like to be part of the "club". But I am a little confused.

Exactly how do you do this? Backup my DVD movies without going through an entire pack of blank DVDs?

I have seen where some use DVD X series and other use the free software of DVD Shrink, Decryptor. I tried to use the DVD X Plantinum but it has failed me several times now. I don't really care for the extras as long as I can save my movies from being destroyed by the kids?

    Thanks

    P.S

I have gone to the guide for burning DVDs with Shrink and Decryptor and printed them out. I am just wandering if there are any extra tips or tricks that you experts might be willing to help me with.

Not sure why you are having a problem. I use DVD Decrypter for ripping and then use DVDshrink to reauthor and burn my DVD backups.

I haven't tried the Shrink and Decryptor as of yet. I have been reading on it and trying to figure out what to do before I give it a shot.

I have been having problems with DVD X Plat. Thats the only software that I have tried so far.

Just fyi I am so far very pleased with Decrypter and Shrink. Just started using both of them last week and have not made a single coaster as of yet. I use decrypter to rip the DVD and then use shrink to clean out everything but the main movie and then re-author it. I have it set to automatically burn once it is copied to my hard drive and so far the movies have been excellent quality. I am trying to figure out why alot of people in here are using NERO when these two programs seem to do it all with regards to DVD movie backups?

    Hiya bigbear

Decrypter and Shrink are outstanding programs and both are easy to learn. Here's a link to some very good guides that include screenshots and great tips to help you along:

DrEvil, Unless you run into a title that Shrink has trouble ripping, which is rare, there's no point in always using Decrypter first. Shrink does a fine job ripping on its own. You're only adding unecessary steps to the process.

Many here use Nero or RecordNowDX to burn because Shrink doesn't have an internal burning engine, it uses Nero if it's on your system. Decrypter's burning engine is decent but the standalone burning apps tend to do a better job as a general rule.

Nephilim thanks for your response. Nobody likes to waste time by adding unneccesary steps so I will look into getting Nero.

Cool Jim, these animated guides should help out. Thanks.

When I use the Shrink and Decryptor, do I need to turn off my firewall and disable my antivirus software or can they be running in the background?

It depends on your system resources, thats something youll have to find out whats best for you system.Try experimenting with some dvdrw's.With my system i dont need to,but i cant say about yours.I know if you have problems, thats the first thing people suggest you do,shut down everything.
