Not sure if this is the right place for this question. I have burnt around 6 or 700 movies with an external DVD burner. It is starting to error lately. I can't remember what the exact message is but I looked it up yesterday and it is saying the lazer can't read the disc. Is that a lot of movies to burn on a burner, or could it be the media? I have maxell dvd's that usually work but aren't and I tried another brand last night and it did the same thing.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated....
    Thanks

Depends on the drive is 6-700 is alot. Have have 2 burners that have burned more than that and are still good. But every burner is different.

Is the firmware up to date? If not update it. Post back the make and model of the burner.

Maxell uses different manufacturers - when buying Maxell look for made in Japan. What other brand did you try?

How about the burn speed - what speed are you burning at? If not already try have the rated speed of the media.

The lens may need to be cleaned too - try blowing some canned air in the burner or using a dvd lens cleaner.

Good to here that did the trick!

It's an older drive so at some though I would consider getting a new one. So much cheaper now.

    Happy Burning
