i have a dell demension 5950 with a pentiium D820 processor that the mtherboard has died. can i get an aftemarket board and swap it out.
No, you need a Dell board, as they're wired differently to normal boards. Contact Dell for a replacement.
Hey thanks for the reply, the computer is actually a 5150 but i doubt that makes any difference. So nobody ever put an aftermarket board on a dell machine?
Technical Overview link http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5150/en/sm/techov1.htm#wp1058094 the problem with that computer is that the board is on the wrong side of the case so that all connections are different from regular boards & cases. normal cases when viewed from the front has the board on the rightside of the case but your case has the board on the leftside.
