I recently replaced my old Sony DRU-500A (4X) with a brand new NEC 3520A 16X Burner. I never had any problems with the Sony, burned everything, but the new NEC has failed nearly every single disk. I have a P4 2.8 oc'd to 3.03, 2 gig RAM, ASUS P4C800e Deluxe MB. I upgraded the NEC firmware. I moved the Sony to another slower machine and it still burns everyting I throw at it, but the NEC is not working at all. I have managed to burn a data disk to make sure that there is no hardware failure. The drive is a Primary master with a DVDROM as the slave. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Rob
I also wanted to add that I have tried several types of media. I am currently using Maxell printable DVD's, but I have a lot of Memorex also, both of which work great in the Sony burner.
Swap drives with your other computer and see if the NEC will work in the other machine. Your drive may be "toast".
Hi, make sure that you have the latest firmware version for your new drive. Get it here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces Should be 3.03 You may also want to visit the: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=151831 and Liggy and Dees page at http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/ Some great firmware options for you. Cheers.
Good idea Stan, I will try it. I have burned with the new drive, but only once or twice. I am running the 3.06 firmware, I have tried Liggy and Dees, but I am currently using the NEC "official" firmware. Thanks for the fast responses, I will swap them and test more.
Just an update...I swapped the drives in the two pc's and the NEC does the same thing in the other PC. It will burn a CD fine, but DVD's fail at 3% done everytime. I guess the drive is bad. Thanks again for the help!!! Rob
It sounded like the drive going bad. I have that NEC 3520a and one of my burners and it has worked fine for me. You did have the latest firmware.
I have the latest firmware, I am pretty sure the drive is going bad. I have already orderED A BenQ Lightscribe. Thanks for the help!!!!!!
