Have installed a Pioneer DVR_A06 in a Dell 4550, 2.53GHZ, 256 Meg DDR-333, HD1 - 30gig & HD2 - 15gig, CD-RW. Have Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0. Drive came with Nero Express, Nero Toolkit, SCI Write DVD, & Uleads VideoStudio 7 SE, DVD MovieFactory 2SE, DVD PictureShow 2SE, DVD Player.

Will the software that came with the drive be sufficient or should I look at getting something more??. I have downloaded the guide, Decrypter & dvdshrink312 but not yet installed. Would upgrading to Nero Ultra or 6.0 be the way to go??

Should I uninstall the Roxio software??

    You advice will be appreciated.

I have the same processor and burner in my VAIO. I have upgraded my RAM to 1024 MB. Shrink is going to work a bit slow using 256 MB. It should still work.

You don't need to use Decrypter before using Shrink.

Make sure your IDE channels are set to DMA and not PIO.

Shrink may work with Nero express, I'd try it before buying Ultra. See if Shrink will auto-burn.

    Roxio should probably go away.

Get some high quality R/W media to practice with and a flawless source disc and go for it. :D

    Somebody's been doing their homework!

I would definitely remove the Roxio software. It doesn't play nice with other burning apps and is poo poo anyway.

For backing up your DVDs, Decrypter, Shrink and Nero are a great combination that will allow you to back up most any movie you want.

You don't have to upgrade Nero although if you want to there is certainly nothing wrong with that. I used Nero 5.5.10.54 with satisfaction for quite awhile but RecordNow Max is my new baby and well worth checking out before you buy anything.

As an aside, if you throw in another 256 MB of RAM in your computer it'll help out alot too.
