new souncard +headset mic probs

hi all, i have a new soundcard its a cit 6channel pci 3d soundcard model no: SC-1723
with via chipset. my pc is a dc conroe 1333-D667 mobo.running win7 ultimate
problem is the headset mic is very very quiet (have to shout to get anything)the onboard sound works fine (yes i have disabled it). i have tweaked the settings in audio control but still nothing, the headphones work fine i have updated drivers (2010 was latest i could find) only prob i found was i can hear my voice in headphones which cannot be correct. so now at a loss . really need help with this as i do online radio for a poker forum, changed to a soundcard as couldnt have volume to high with onboard with getting feedback.
