I've just copied a movie to disk with DVD shrink. The movie is uncompressed- 6.x GB I have Nero Ultra 8 for burning. Someone told me to use Nero and it would prompt me when to insert the 2nd DVD when all of the data didn't fit on one disk. (I'm not using dual layer at this point) However, when I start burning, Nero tells me that therre is too much data to fit on the 4.x Gb dvd. I dont want to overburn becaue it's not reliable. How do I get Nero to use multiple DVDs and prompt me to insert the 2nd blank dvd ? thanks
To my knowledge, Nero doesn't do that. It will shrink the movie to fit onto a single layer, ot burn it onto a dual layer. If you want to split it on 2 dvds, you have to create 2 DVD structures and burn them separately.
dvd shrink will compress the file down to 4.7 gig to get it on one dvd-5 SL blank then you can burn with nero edit typo lol
DVD-5 DL?! @cappy2112 If we get into details, DVD Shrink is obsolete when dealing with the new releases. To copy the movies to your HDD get DVDFab HD Decrypter(free), and to shrink them use Nero Recode-since you have Nero, as I think is faster and better than DVD Shrink( which still is an awesome program).Do not compress to more than 4.4GB(4.3 GB to be on the safe side). http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/494836 You can replace DVD Shrink and ImgBurn with Nero. However, if burning DL, I suggest using ImgBurn with Verbatim discs.
The movie is already on my HD, so it's not an issue wof which program to use. I want to know how to burn it onto DVDs, so it will span more than one disc, since the movie is uncompressed.
So you don't want to compress the movie, you want to split it onto 2 discs? Is it just main movie or do you also want to backup with menus? If you want just the main movie, you can use DVD Shrink. If you want the menus on both discs, use VobBlanker: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/159132
I want an exact copy of the original movie. I'm not sure what you mean by "backup with menus" THE MOVIE IS ALREADY ON MY HD. I've already copied it with DVDShrink. Why do you keep referring to dvdshrink? I need to burn it with Nero. DVDShrink doesn't do burning.
EDIT: Set "Rant Mode" to "OFF"! DVD Shrink is capable to split the main title onto 2 discs. You will lose menus though. If you want to preserve the menus, VobBlanker can do that, and I am not sure, but CloneDVD2 might also be able to do that also(and I am sure other applications like DVD Rebuilder and such). Instead of DVD Shrink you can use the reauthor function of Nero Recode. You cannot split the movie using the burning engine of Nero. You can't just set it to burn onto 2 DVD, burn one and then insert the second one. You have been missinformed. If you want an "exact copy" and is larger than 4.4GB, then you don't split it, you burn it onto a dual layer disc. Read the guides on the link I gave you.
From what I've read in this forum, Nero 8 is a disaster when it comes to burning dual layer discs, which is why I'm trying to avoid that method, until nero is patched.
You are correct, Nero does not handle dual layer properly. Download Imgburn, it is free and the best you can get at burning DL. Also Verbatim discs are best for DL. You had a 6Gb movie and you were wondering how to fit it onto discs uncompressed? Did the thought of Dual Layer DVDs ever cross your mind? No offense but that would be the most logical and easiest thing to do. No need to rant at other uses to think up solutions for you.
If you had followed the thread, it states that I dont want to waste D/L dvds, because Nero 8 has so many problems with them. Also, D/L dvds cost a hell of a lot more than single layer dvds, so why take the chance of throwing my money down the drain, when the technology isn't stable or at least Nero 8)
