I own a NDS Lite and have become interested in the talk about homebrew DS apps/games. The only problem is, im completely new to this. I have no idea what chip i need and/or how i can use the various mod chips. Can anyone suggest a good product and give me some info on mod chips and what they will allow me to do? Thanks.
Basically you buy a cartridge maybe with a memory card as well and you can play backup games, music, video, run other apps etc. Choice of cart varies depending on what you want. M3 Simply or R4DS is enough for the majority of ppl but not all. More info is in the stickies - read them and then maybe you'll understand more.
One I can recommend is the M3 DS Real. I previously had the M3 Perfect but I got tired of patching and waiting for new firmware updates. With the M3 DS Real, you just copy the game file over to your micro sd card and your set to go. Its a slot 1 card (where your DS games go) so in order to play GBA games you have to buy a GBA expansion which is usually bundled with the M3 DS Real anyways. Google M3 DS Real for more info. Hope that helps...
As previously stated, M3 or R4 is the way to go. Although, there are promising new ones out there which boasts support for SDHC. Here is a guide on R4DS. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/627024
