Hola everyone. Not sure if rebootjim will be able to help on this, too, but burning DVDs from my computer is just not going well. The things I wanna do just seems like it's too too complicated, and too too time consuming...but anyway...

I'm curious to know what would either of you recommend for a first-time DVD recorder buyer. I've been looking at Circuit City and Best Buy at each of the models, but I'm not sure which one would be best to get with the features I wanna be able to do:

    1. I have multiple 6 and 8 hr. VHS tapes that I'd like to be able to put on one DVD. This automatically draws me to double-layer DVD recorders, though it seems that they only allow 4 hr. recording..maybe only in SP mode.

    2. I wanna be able to make chapters and/or menus to easily navigate through the DVD. I've heard some come with USB ports to put in data...is that true?

    3. Is it better to get a DVD recorder with a hard drive to do any custom editing?

I think that's pretty much it. I don't know if any of you have info on these specific recorders, but the ones I've been thinking about are:

    1. LG Progressive-Scan Multiformat Double-Layer DVD-R/-RW/+R/+RW Recorder - Silver(Model: LRA-516) -- Best Buy online
    2. Panasonic DVD-R/-RW/+R/RAM Recorder(Model: DMR-ES10S)
    3. Panasonic DVD Recorder (DMR-ES10K)
    4. JVC DVD Recorder (DR-M100S)
    5. Samsung DVD Recorder (DVD-R120)

...anyone have any help on this? :-\

I have had the Panasonic DMRE-S10S for about two weeks now...I put all my VHS tapes onto DVD-Ram...8 hours on each side in EP mode...It also lets you make chapters and menus...this feature only works with RAM DVD's...

Otherwise programs are recorded as a single title consisting of one chapter...With the DVD RAM you can change the order of chapters and create a playlist..

    I really like this model...
