I have a few questions if some one doesn't mind answering them.

    1. Are there DVD players that play video files other than DivX video such as AVI, MPEGS?
    2. Would you burn these video files on a DVD, like a data disc?
    3. What video types are HD?
    4. How do you burn these HD video types?
    5. What is the best way to burn avi or mpegs for the best quality picture? (Very broad question sorry)

I know those are some pretty newb questions but please bare with me. A friend lent me some shows to watch but they are all on a data disc so I can only watch them on the computer. He says they are HD but I was under the impression that HD video files were MPEG4. These video files are MPEG2 and have a resolution of 624x352. What would be the best way to burn these files so I can watch them on my HDTV? If it makes a difference they are each 350mb.

Thank you to any one who posts.

Some DVD players will play all of those format's (DivX/Xvid) files are considered AVI files. I have a Phillips player that plays all the formats above. You just have to look at the specs of the DVD player you want to buy and see what files are supported.

Yes if you want to play the Video files (Xvid/DivX/Mpeg) on a DVD player you would burn them as a data DVD disc as long as the player supported those file formats.

    these are High Definition files.

Same as above a data DVD. If you need to convert the HD files then I don't know what program you would need to use to keep the HighDef resolution of the Video File. Someone else will have to help you with that.

The best way would be to burn them as a data disc and play them on a compatible player. If your player is not compatible then you will need to convert the Video File to DVD compliant files. Doing this will lower the quality of the Video File. Since you will convert and encode it again. You can use Nero Vision Express or ConvertXToDvd to convert a video file to DVD compliant files.

Thank you larrylje for the quick reply.

What is the standard resolution for HD video? If my LCD TV is 1360x768 then 624x352 video I listed above will look blown up, right?

Also if HD can be in any video format then what video formats use x264 codecs?

Sorry to have so many questions but when I get into something I like to know what I am doing. I have done searches but there is soo much content on the subject it is hard to narrow down. I appreciate all the feedback.

Also what are some good capture cards that I can record off satilitte? With these cards can I also view the TV shows on the computer?
