Hey all, just picked up the pioneer 106 oem and would very much like to make backup copies of my dvds, but i do not want to spend the extra money on dvdxcopy and xpress. i just downloaded dvdshrink 2.3 and nero comes with my burner i think, so do i need anything else? is dvdshrink 2.3 as good as dvdxcopy? thank you all for helping me!

I'd remove your e-mail as spambots are everywhere mate...

DVD Shrink 2.3 & Nero combination is all you will need unless you start trying to do more complex matters (ie: reauthoring the hell out of it)

Use this site (generously hosted by Oriphus)

Re-Authoring would be removing menu and/or extras or for the more complex matters I spoke of would be to want to put 2 DVD's on one DVD-R (for example)
    Yeah , DVDXCopy is sh*t [full-stop]
You shouldn't if your hardware is configured properly & you follow guides etc etc

    Peace

hey herbsman, just wanted to thank you so much for helping me out :) .. got 2 more questions though

    1) i got 40 princo dvd-r's 2x, are these reliable for the x-box and a coby 404? those are my 2 dvd players .. i dont care if it plays on the computer

    2) is there a way to back up my x-box games without modding my x-box?

    thank you!

    I personally don't like Princo's , I always buy Ritek
You will be able to play DVD-Video no doubt , but I think you'll need to ModChip for games on DVD-R

I agree with the princo statement. Although they are improving i personally will not be changing from ritek any time soon.

hey all .. i've started messing around with shrink 2.3 and i've got a few questions .. sorry about all of it but im a newbie .. u guys have been so amazing at answering all of them :)

unspecified audio? what is that .. do i need this

subpicture? what is that .. do i need it

Title 1 and Title 1 (continued) .. do i need both

    when reauthoring:
do i have to put things in the order in which it is supposed to go? such as if Title 1 is the actual movie, and Title 2 is the Hollywood Video Advertisement or something (and i wanted it in the backup copy), do i have to put Title 2 before of Title 1?

the menus stay the same even if i omit things like sneak preview movies from the new copy? what happens when i choose those and they are not there?

say on a movie there are deleted scenes and when u click that it goes to track 6 which is an intro from the director, do i have to copy that as well as the deleted scenes because they would go into eachother?

start/end, is this the easy way to reauthor .. copy everything over just start at the beginning and stop 1 frame later and save space?

    thank you so much
    dave

I'm pretty sure that if you reauthor, the menus will not work. If you still want the menus, just compress all the extra stuff as much as possible. I read somewhere to keep the subpicture (its not very big anyways), and i'd keep the unspecified audio also if its not very big.

It's hard to give a specific answer unless you were to tell me which disc in particular as extracting / compressing is purely on a disc to disc basis...if your fussy

Title 1 & Title 1 would imply to me that there is Widescreen & Full Screen copies incorporated on the DVD original [not sure but I'd imagine that is the case]
Unspecified audio could well be directors commentary
Personally I still use DVD2One to compress my movies...

Oriphus or Baabaa should be able to help you out on specifics as they both use the proggie much more than myself : )
