newbie..How to convert dvd to cdrom for comp. playback

Hi All, here's my dilema, I work as a mastering engineer for audio. Now I have a request to make an audio cd with video also (cd extra) Problem is they sent a dvd with a three minute video, I need to convert to something that will playback in a cdrom drive and be the most compatible. I know dvd is mpeg2, what would be my best alternative?
convert to mpeg1? quicktime? Software needed? Thanks in advance,

Use DVD2SVCD using CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder) as DVD2SVCD creates a seperate encoded audio file for you. You can encode the 3 minute clip, then use freebie burning (BurnAtOnce, VCDEasy) and burn either the mpeg2 file(s) or bin& cue<my prefernace.

[bold]Copying DVD files to harddrive [/bold]

1. Put the DVD movie into your DVD Rom player. It doesn't get much easier than this!

2. I prefer to use SmartRipper than DVD2SVCD own internal programs as I can strip out unwanted Audio and Subtitles. This speeds up the conversion. I can also do this part at my leisure.

3. Run SmartRipper, it should detect your DVD and unlock all files. If it has problems, actually play the movie with WinDVD or other DVD player first, then run SmartRipper.

4. Select Settings and for Key Check set Every VOB File. For File Splitting, set Every VOB File and for Options select Unlock Drive, DeMacrovision, Copy IFO File and Create Directories.

5. Click on Stream Processing tab and check which audio stream is English or the language you wish to rip. Also, if you enable Stream Processing and unselect the langauages and subtitles you DONT want, then the final conversion can be sped up considerably. The VOB files will now be smaller on your HD than they are on the DVD.

6. Selecting Start to start ripping the VOB files of the DVD to your hard drive. This can take 5 to 30 minutes depending on your computer setup and the actual DVD.

Here's what I have, I did some research and found the link for the process. I have the ripper,dvd2vcd,and tmpgnc. Now, I ripped the files needed, The video will playback in dvd2vcd,although no sound. It saves the video in about 5 secs? not normal from what I have read. Then I can't get Tmpgnc to recognize the files from the dvd2vcd program? I don't know, I'm starting to think there is a problem with the dvd file, when I try to play it in powerdvd it just starts and stops continueously on the first frame? I will try to get the client to send in an mpeg1. Thanks for all the help. Harry

 

I'm no expert when it comes to using TMPEnc encoder m8. Hopefully Dela will see this post as he is has much more knowledge about TMPENc than I do. After you rip the dvd, then load the ifo file using DVD2SVCD. Input your settings and then launcg go. Notice DVD2AVI starts, then the audio is transcoded. After this process the video is encoded and at the end, the audio& video are multiplexed. If it were me, I would download the CCE trial (Cinema Craft Encoder) and use that encoder instead. You have a short "clip" so the encoding process won't take very long unless you;re running a slow processor. When all finished burn the bin& cue files using BurnAtOnce to a cd-r(w) and you have a working backup of the dvd (video\audio). Notice where you made a folder there is a seperate audio file. You can rip that to a cd-r(w) if you wish to. Also, after encoding is finished, load the bbmpeg2 file(s) with powerDVD and they will play fine as I'm running PowerDVD 5.0.

Open BurnAtOnce>settings>device settings>select your dvd\cd-rom& burner and enable overburn. Set buffers to your totoal physical ram you're using and then load the cue file(s) and burn at 8x.
