    HI ALL! :)

This site is like a community, it's real cool! I'm glad I found this forum, but i hope it's an active forum..

Ok, I will get straight to the point..

I am having a video project coming up, and I need a video camera.

I've been looking at JVC and Sony.. And I kinda lean towards Sony.

Looking towards the HDD cams tho.. For convenience a little :)

Which in your opinion, would you think is a better cam? The SONY DCR-SR65E or DCR-SR42E..?

I don't know what is the difference with features like "ADVANCE HAD" or "MEGAPIXEL CCD" .. Does those features from the Sony cams make any difference to the quality of the video captured?

Or are they just marketing gimmick?

Please please do advise.. It's my final term project.

    Thanks all! :)

The DCR SR65E has HAD CCD which does

The DCR SR42E has a better zoom according to the websites I visited. It also should have the HAD CCD.

Both are good buys but the SR65E had 10gb more harddrive capacity 40gb to 30gb. But the SR42E has better zoom 40X optical to 25X.

Both have HAD CCD and are of good value. They are both PAL camcorders. So only buy them if you are outside America.

Do you want more zoom from the SR42E
    Or more space from SR65E

The SR42E looks like the better buy to me because 30gigs is still a reasonable size and you get the benefits of great zoom and good price.

    SR42E ~ 460$
    SR65E ~ 600$
I got these prices from the online store of B&H Photo Video and Audio

The CCDs make a big difference in picture quality, and both have good ones. Decide based on price, zoom functionality, and hard drive space

Bro, I can't thank you enough for your detailed help.. It really helped me alot, THANKS MAN!

But there's just one thing more I need to know, based on your reply..

Which of the cams have better video quality? Since you said:

Is the "Sony CCD MEgapixel" from the DCR SR65E better, or the "Advanced HAD" from the DCR SR42E better?

Or they are actually just the same?

    THANK YOU MATE! :)

p/s : Are JVC cams any good? Cause I came across the JVC GZ-MG435AG, and it sounds quite promising.. Compared to the DCR SR65E .

The CCD HAD is a little better but the difference is not all that noticable. I don't know about JVC cams. Do some research on it and check the prices at different stores. I cant reply till sunday cause I am goiing to San Diego from LA today. Going to sea world!!

See you soon. I still suggest the lower priced cam. The advanced features just make the 600$ aq little better than the other. Check out those JVC cams to.

Oh, so you're saying the Sony SR42E with the ADVANCE HAD is better than the SR65E's feature?? o_O

I'll be going to check out the JVC cam and the Sony SR65E cam , and also the 42E i guess.. Heheh, I don't think I would have a big need for that long zoom anyway.. But hmm, who knows ..

Thanks dude!! Hope u had a great time at the sea world! :)

    Hey guys! :)

I wonder issit possible to do the "Depth of Field" effect with the SONY DCR-SR65E video cam..?

Or only HD cameras can do that kinda stuff? Like those seen in the movies where the character is talking while the background is blur..? o_O
