I am looking to build a new system that will run games and wonder if i can get any input about these parts i have picked out, it has been a while since i built a system so i can use all the help i can get. any info would help. Intel i5-750 quad core processor asus p7p55d mother board corsair xms3 4GB DDR3 PC 10666 memory PNY GeForce GT 240 512MB video card western digital 500GB 7200 rpm sata drive rosewill green RG700 power supply badtip
CPU - Good. Asus Mobo - Reliability issue - MSI,Gigabyte or Biostar Corsair Memory - Good. PNY - Go for an ATI not an Nvidia card WD HD- Good PSU- Major overkill, get a Corsair 550. Even 550 may be a bit overkill for this system but it gives you room to grow.
OK i made a couple changes but i'm still not sure about the mother board,i did read several reviews and get mixed comments about this asus boards, could anyone recommend a better quality board that will work with the other parts i have on the new list here. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.325116 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145260 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150465 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136320 the more i read, the more confused i get !
Original spec: CPU: 10/10 Mobo: 5/10 (Asus boards are unreliable) RAM: 7/10, good brand, but PC12800 is faster and not usually more expensive. GPU: 3/10, the GT240 is very slow for how much it costs HDD: 10/10 PSU: 0/10 - deathtrap (ignoring that you've chosen a 700W PSU for a system that uses less than 140W) Revised spec: CPU: 10/10 Mobo: 5/10 (As above) RAM: 10/10 PSU: 10/10 GPU: 6/10 - You do not need 1GB for a card as slow as the HD5750, the hd5750 itself is a nice card, but unless you really want DirectX11 and Eyefinity, an HD4850 is much better value ($100 vs $160 for a faster card!) pre-overclocked cards are also usually a waste of money. Keep the CPU, but on its own. Get this board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/NewProduct.aspx?Item=N82E16813128412 Keep the RAM and HDD. Buy this graphics card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/NewProduct.aspx?Item=N82E16814161317 Notice it's the same price as the 5750 you chose, and 20% faster. Ideally, I'd say buy an HD5850, but at $290 they're out of most people's price range.
Thanks for the info you guys have given me, i have made my choices and am waiting on delivery of the new parts. WD 500 gb sata hdd HIS HD 5770 1GB video card corsair 550 PSU corsair 4 GB DDR3 pc3 12800 ram gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 lga MOBO i5-750 cpu Now for the final decision, what operating system to install, should i stick with the old XP media edition or just buy the new windows 7 , 32 bit or 64 bit Thanks for the help
Up to you really. Windows 7 is the better choice overall for games now but clearly it's additional expense if you already own the other OS.
Help, I received all the parts, put it all together and when i push the on button the CPU and VIDEO card fans run for 1 second, the LED lights come on at the same time and then everything goes off for 3 seconds and repeats itself over and over. any ideas..
ok that was my fault, i missed the 8 prong plug, now i get the machine to boot but none of the keys work on the keyboard to get to the bios setup screens, i am going to try a new keyboard and see if it helps.
ok, when the ssytem boots up it goes to the GYGABYTE screen that has the options for (tab-post screen) (del-bios setup)(F9-xpress recover) (F12-boot menu) but i have no keyboard function at all, i have tried 2 keyboards that work on both my other computers without any luck, i'm not sure whats going on, any input would help.
