I have just started learning about mp3 players and have a couple of questions. Which is the better format to use. .wma or mp3? When I rip from a cd I have a choice to use either file. I don't have a good mp3 player yet but was looking at the san disk 1 or 2 gig. Will a player play both .wma and mp3 files in the same playlist? Is there an easy way to convert .wma unprotected files to mp3 or should i just rip them again and use the mp3 choice? thanks doug
I would choose mp3 over wma files. Your best option is to re-rip your CDs to mp3. if you convert a lossy format to another lossy format (wma to mp3), there is significant quality loss. The best cd ripper out there is called EAC (exact audio copy). I highly recommend using it if you are going to re-rip your CD collection. We have a step by step guide on how to install and use EAC, you can find the link to it in my sig below. Most portable players will play both mp3 and wma, but mp3 is still the most popular format, and when encoded properly (by using a good ripper such as EAC, and using good encoding such as the LAME encoder at VBR - variable bitrate), you will get the best quality for compressed lossy format audio you can get.
I would rerip the song into MP3 Formatt! What program are you useing to rip your Music because some are mch better than others! And great desision on the SanDisk 1GB or 2GB player... those are great players I recomend you get a player with a SD card slot that way you can get as much music as you want! ~Domreis
