Hi. I have followed the giude to get my AVI movie files onto my DVD-RW disk, for playing on my DVD player. I think I followed the guide instructions properly, but - though I get pictures OK - I get no sound. At the start of the disk there are some chirrup sounds, but no dialogue. The first couple of minutes also appears to be running faster than the rest of the movie.

Playing the AVI file itself on my PC shows no problems. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance

    Mike

Hi. I hope people won't mind if I ask about the question I posed. Is the lack of answers because the issues are new, and no-one can answer them without doing lots of work, or is it because I am asking really basic questions which I should be able to sort out for myself?

Either way, it would be nice to hear from someone ...

the only AVIs I convert are digital Video (well I use CCE on movies which requires an AVI but the sound is dealt with seperately) if you have followed the guide to the letter then there may be a problem with the AVI itself.

    How did you convert it?
Have you tried any other way of converting it?
If you play the VOB files from the hard drive does the sound work?

What is the AVI, a download? a home movie?

More detail will bring more help

    Thanks for responding.

This was a downloaded movie that works with my DivX player. I converted it as instucted in the guide using AVICodec to see what the avi file details were. Audio was shown to be MPEG-1 Layer3 (which I assume is mp3). I did not try to convert the audio. I then converted the avi to MPEG-2 with TMPGEnc Plus (well worth the money by the look of it) following the directions on fps, filters and bitrate settings etc. I used IFOEdit to try to author the DVD. The ausio file showed up as m2v (I think). Finally I burned the authored file on to a DVD RW. I think I followed the instructions correctly. I'll try to play the VOB files from the hard disk like you suggest - what app should I use to play them?

Sorry to be such a dunce!

    Regards

    Mike

Power DVD will play VOBs from the hard drive, I suspect that most software DVD players will also

The video file would have been m2v the audio should be mpa (from memory) or AC3 if you left the audio as it was then it may not be DVD compliant (hence the problem) it will need converting to DVD compliant audio.

I haven't read the guide does it not cover the audio conversion?
