I just purchased a 120gb External Harddrive ($120 @ Compusa!!!) and I was wondering if there was any way to divide up the drive for it to load faster. Sorry @ the title...I had posted in the wrong section
Yeah, partitioning it. I never saw the option to do it. Does it matter that I've already formatted and added stuff to it? PS. It's an ACOMDATA 120GB/7200RPM Firewire/USB and I have WinXP
I understand the desire for the drive to load faster, but I must ask: how would partitioning it cause it to load faster, since you would not physically have more than one drive you would not have any increase in speed, at least by my reasoning. As for partitioning it I would suppose that you would go about this in the normal manner for partitioning any hard drive, as I have never partitioned a hard drive outside of a windows installation I can only guess that the program partition magic will be able to do this for you. As i recall from reading about partitioning: there is the distinct possibility that you will loose your data, however, if you defragment your hard drive first, and set the partitions so as to not have a partition smaller than the size of your data, then you can successfully have several virtual disks with the risk of data loss minimized.
1. The first sectors of a disc are the fastest parts of the disc. 2. By partitioning the disc we can isolate that aforementioned "first sectors of the disc" 3. If we install an OS in that given partion, life is a tad faster
