newbie question....how to convert mpeg files to DVD+R?

I'm not sure if this question is for this forum, I'm not looking to break any rules....I'm very new to all of this and I'm looking for some answers. What program do I need to convert an mpeg file to DVD+R? I just received a DVD+R drive, I'm thinking I'd need a program to convert it to another file type (mpeg->?), but, again, I'm new to this, and don't really know what I'm doing. If anyone can help, I'd surely appreciate it.

Convert your MPEG files to VOB's using TMPG DVD Author then compress, and burn using DVDShrink 3.1
