    I'm trying to convert an avi file to a dvd. I used tmpgenc to change the file to an mpeg file. Then I used shrink to compress the file, and burned it with nero! The problem is the dvd will not play on any stand alone player(and I have tried a multiple number of players, newer ones included...hell I even tried it on a ps2 just for the hell of it) The dvd will play on my computer! So I am wondering what am I doing wrong??

    Ok here is the thing now, I encoded another avi file and used shrink and burned it with nero on a cdr(vcd) and it works in all my players. But when I try to burn on my dvd+R's it does not play!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Could you post a screenshot of the actual error because im not clear of the error you are getting.

    Do you go through the nero wizard??

    I used CDburnerXP and TmpGenc to burn avi to DVD, and the audio did not work on the finished DVD. The video was perfect.

    The avi audio is mp3. Is this why the audio didn't come through?

    If so, what can I do next time to get it right?

    Is there yet another goddamn app I have to install?

    That's the thing I'm not getting an error. All my players are newer models that read dvd+R discs. Nero completes the burn and there are no errors. It's funny because my players both play avi/cdr files that are changed to mpeg. Something is going wrong with the process of converting I guess.

    @borat187

    It could be that you hace the settings of the actual players. And change it there.

    @Samizdat

    All you may need is to convert the mp3's to wav for it too compress into the correct audio codec when creating the DVD. Give that a go...

    Ok thanks for all your help. I figured out what I was doing wrong, I needed to author my dvd's into mpeg 2. Since I did that they now play fine. I guess I just got confused because I didn't need to do this when burning these types of files to a cdr.
