Hi, I'm new here but was just wondering if anyone can tell me if there's a way I can get the microphone fixed on my son's ds? Its out of warranty so that's not an option. Any advice welcome!

    Ok question.

ds Lite or first edition ds

The reason a ask is the first edition ds handhelds where known for bad mics and i have gone through 2 myself mine was out of warrenty and nintendo replaced them both at no charge for me

however if this is on a ds lite then you are in trouble because nintendo will charge you.

its a ds lite, unfortunately. Do you think I should contact Nintendo direct? Perhaps it would be cheaper just to buy a new DS...

u can search for independant repair services, i've seen a few advertised on ebay but i cant garauntee if they're reliable/honest. or you can buy a used/faulty console and use it for spare parts if you know how to change the mic.

Replacing the mic on a DSL is almost as complex as replacing the topscreen.

    Suggestion:

1)Get an external DS microphone to see if it IS the microphone and not the logic board. The microphone/headset combo is not always available locally so you my need to mail order for it.

If the external microphone works, keep it and use it. It is a Much less risky solution than trying to replace the mic and cable.

Unlike the DS Phat, the DSL mic is connected by a tiny coax cable from the top screen to the logic board.

Oh, and if the external mic doesn't work either, your Logic board is shot.

ok thanks for your help. Will get an external mike, and try that. If its not the mic, i'll just have to get a new ds!

OOW repair for a bad mic should still be less than a new NDSL. Wait and see what happens with the external mic.
