i think the answer is this : You have to dig at certain spots on the ground. Then use the hawk to pick up the item and drop it on the monkey. Or you can use the wildcat and attack.
Thankz for the reply but Im still having problems. Im on Chapter 5 but dont have a hawk ..only an owl. Lyra cant do anything but supply the concrete block. The owl drops the concrete block on the monkey but it only seems to stun him..meaanwhile Lyra is getting another block. I still cant achieve the main im to get the Althiometer from the monkey. Any help most appreciated
try this : drop the concrete block to stun him and then quickly change to the panther form and attack as much as possible, eventually he will drop the compass and run off.
