I was wondering if some1 could tell me which card to buy, and everything that is needed to play ROMs and BackUps. I'm a newbie that just bought a Nintendo DSi and would like to play ROMs and BackUps, I'm not looking for the cheap way but the best (easy and most reliable) way of doing. Please advise on all the best parts out there for immediate purchase.

    Thanks,

Its early days - so on reliablily, the best that can be said is that they work now.

Acecard - working if the system language is set to English, has been confirmed as still working if the firmware is upgraded to 1.3 (latest is offered if you visit the DSi Shop)

    EZ Flash Vi - Working

R4i now 2 available but given previous track record best to be avoided.

thanks for your suggestions, now it comes as if I'm really lost on this:-O After some reading I was under the impression that R4 and M3 Real would work, perhaps my lack of knowledge led me to this conclusion. I must confess that I so far I have not been able to find the mentioned cards. I will keep looking and if any other suggestion comes up to your mind please feel free to supply.

    Thanks,

You'll be the first I've heard of who ordered an R4i. Let us know how it works out. Hopefully it is more reliable than previous R4 incarnations.

I ordered an R4i about 2 weeks ago, but it hasn't arrived yet.

I've had an R4 for a year and a half and I've never had a problem with it. Some people on this forum are going to tell you the R4i will probably give you problems. Don't listen to them. Nobody has tried the R4i yet, so there's no reason to assume it won't work.

And guess what - there is no guarentee that it is going to either.
    HOWEVER
    AceKard 2i - Working
    EZ Flash Vi - Working
    DSTTi - Working

    All proven to be working.

People get hung up on the R4 saying all sorts of things, so FACTS

    1) the R4 (original) was the first low cost reliable cart, it was a revolution (as the name said) - this cart is the one everyone talked about and for 18months it was the card to have.

However last June time the team disbanded and it was no more - reasons, there has been a lot of speculation about them being sued as this card was being openly sold in Japan - however it is hear say and no one really knows, however they have gone and there will be no more official updates.

    2) 13 other invisible teams decided that the excellent name of R4 would sell their cart, so there are now 14 carts all with the name R4 in them, this is a nightmare for noobs buying their cart. Which software to put on, if / when it gets updated. Most are very poor, slow if any updates.

This is why the R4 is loosing its lustre, I would not recommend anyone to buy an R4 unless (as I have often stated) you are 100% sure of what you are getting. Many people buy an R4 from a shop, buy another a few months later and - they need different software - different cards with the same packing.

Hence the R4 is getting a poor reputation, not just on this forum but on others too.

There are already 2 carts calling themselves the R4i, so even if you are told it the R4i works you will not know which one you are getting.

So all in all I would rather spend my hard earned cash on something I KNOW works and in the case of all three of the above have a reliable past reputation, not a stolen reputation from a now obsolete product. No on here was anti R4 when it was in its heyday, but now its obsolete, but things have moved on.

very good point indeed. Well, as a newbie I'm in the water to get wet, hopefully not drawn. I will let you guys know whenever I get the R4i. The vendor said on the chat msg that in 2 week I will be getting, but again I've never order from them before and I have no previous experience ordering such a thing.

    Thanks you all!
