I am having trouble taking an avi file that is a dix and make it mpeg 2 format using TMPGEnc. I can make the video fine but everything I do I can not make the audio. I don't know if TMPGEnc does not support it but I can't get it to produce audio. I can play the avi in any other software wiht audio playing so I don't know what to to. Can somone please help me

Does the audio source show up next to the audio button on the main screen?

    Two things to try...

1st. In TMPGEnc click options - environmental setting. Click the VFAPI Plug-in tab and look for DirectShow on the list. Right click it and give it a higher priority (preferably higher than the rest or equalto the other highest usually has good results!). Try now and see will the encoded file have audio! If that doesnt work, then put the priority back on DirectShow and get VirtualDUB

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/virtualdub.cfm

Open the avi in virtualdub and click video - direct stream copy. click audio - full processing mode. click audio again and click compression. select, no compression pcm and click ok. click file - save avi. This will save an avi with an uncompressed audio stream so it should be a lot bigger in filesize but the audio on this will definetly be supported by TMPGEnc.

Now if neither of those two worked then the best guess would be that you have an avi with ac3 sound and neither TMPGEnc or VirtualDUB can handle it! However there is a very good guide at this very site that shows how to make a vcd/svcd out of an avi with ac3 audio and its located ... http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/3602.cfm

On the guide I pointed you to just read up to exacting and convertiung the ac3 audio. Now I know that sounds like a pain in the ass because it is a pain in the ass but you'll have to extract and convert that audio so that TMPGEnc can read it!
