Hey guys, I bought a new gateway maybe two months ago now with vista sp1 home premium already on it. Was working ok until a few days ago when I boot up, the little speaker has an X and tells me No Audio Output Device is installed. I've read about alot of people upgrading from xp or something to vista and getting a similar problem but this one came with vista on it. Looked in the device manager and there is no Audio, Video, and Game Controller tab. System Restore does nothing. I'm getting desperate. I'm not much of a techy, please keep simple stupid. Thx. Systems: Gateway FX7026 Vista sp1 home premium
Maybe it died?? If it is working and somehow got uninstalled it ought to find it again and re-install. I have managed to avoid vista and will continue to do so.
This century M$ has displayed more balls than brains. They are rewriting everything from the ground up but then not fully debugging anything. They want the public to be the testers. I say screw them! I can see no advantage to vista. I guess that is why XP out sells Vista when it come to OS purchases not pre-installed on new computers. They started selling it again so that they could get some cash flow. Did you know the one area that would have made a difference was not rewritten? I heard the disk access is not 64 bit from an expert it is the same as XP. I will be hard pressed to buy or even upgrade anything of theirs. I am a bit screwed in that I have thousands invested in apps that run on a M$ platform. If I ever upgrade my OS it will be UNIX not M$ or Apple. They are mostly interested in screwing the user, trying to squeeze the last buck out of them. They figure you are a captive audiance to abuse and spam. Speeking of spam, I can't believe some TV stations are spamming you in the corner of the screen. I guess they figure what are you going to do turn the channel in the middle of the show you are watching? What gets me is do they actually think the spam works or don't they care?
Actually, that is good to know. After almost 2 years after its release, the OS updates can still have major flaws. They are still not testing enough and probably do not really care if they kill the sound or kill some major part of the system. M$ has probably diverted most OS developement money to XP+. They see fixing Vista and throwing good money after bad. I am sure it will never work right. When XP+ comes out, Vista will still be buggy.
