Hi, I attempted yesterday for the first time to convert a divx to DVD-R. I used your guide on this site on doing it, used tmpgenc and reencoded the divx (which took about 20 hours) I had it output two seperate files, a video and an audio file. I then multiplexed it and got the vob files (if memory serves correct) Then I used Nero to burn the DVD, the video came out very nice but there is no audio whatsoever. The divx was encoded with mp3 per avicodec as this is what I get from that program Audio : 139 MB, 182 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported any other ideas as to why I don't have any audio?
If the audio was encoded using AC3, TMPG won't encode it. You'll need to download the AC3 plug-in from tmpgenc.net or use another encoder such as MainConcept or ProCoder.

KC, I am in the exact same boat as you. Got my first DVD writer late last week and have been looking at converting DivX/Xvid files to DVD. I also managed to get VOB files with no sound on them. Couple of things to try, my guess is you will get the same answers as me. 1. Try playing the sound file (MP2?) that TMPGenc creates, my guess is it has a size but it silent. 2. Similarly try playing the VOB file via some sort of DVD software like PowerDVD. Should get picture but no sound again. 3. Lastly, download VirtualDub and try loading your original file (DivX) into that. I got a pop up saying "Virtual Dub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR during processing for better compatability. This may introduce up to 6634ms of skew from video stream. If this is unacceptable decompress the entire audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file recompress with a constant bit rate encoder (bitrate 129.9 +/- 16.0kbps" Now I don't exactly know where to go from here. I did save the audio file in a WAV format. Opened it in WinAmp, it was the exact same length as the Video source was and sound played fine. I then stuck this file and the video file into IFOEdit, created a new set of VOB files and now get sound - except its a very high static hiss!! Any help would be appreciated (sorry for hijacking your thread - but you may have the same problem as me).
I think the Virtual Dub message explains whats wrong - now how to fix it is what I don't know how to do. Some guidance on that would help us both by the sounds of it

oops, didn't read your message thoroughly, you already did what this post says to do. I wonder if I convert it back to an mp3 file if it will work then? is there anyway to preview the vob files short of burning them to make sure they work.
I'm about out of ideas. I pulled the audio out into a wav file which plays fine. I tried multiplexing the wav file into the avi file but just got static. so then I tried using besweet to convert the wav file to an ac3 file. I multiplexed the ac3 file back in with the avi file, but now no audio again. Can anybody PLEASE help me, I'm about to give up on all this.
ok I give up for tonight. I converted the wav file to mp3 just shooting in the dark to see if it would work. Multiplexed it to no avail.
I am at the bit when I just get static in place of any meaningful audio now KC, after I run it through IFOedit. No idea where to go from here, if anyone else has experienced this in the past then I would be grateful for any input. Thanks.
ok, I think I have this working now. I haven't burned the dvd to see if it works on that, but when I test the vob file it works. You'll need to reencode the avi file again. First, have the original divx file and the wav file that you ripped from it. Then when setting your encoding options make sure to make your audio source be the wav file and not the divx file. Re-encode the avi making sure to output it in two streams. Then run ifoedit using the new mp2 file and mv2 file. I think that should make it work. Now I have a new problem. The divx is in a wide screen format, when I re-encode it, it becomes a full screen format. Everybody is stretched really tall. I'm assuming this was a problem in the encoding process. Anybody have any idea what I did wrong?

don't know if you've had time to try it, but it definitely worked for me. I now have a very good looking and sounding DVD.
