Hello everyone I'm not sure where to post this question, but basically I just installed a video card that I purchased recently but unfortunately it seems to have wiped all my audio from my comp. I'm running XP SP2 and have tried installing all the drivers from my manufacturer, HP. When I do though it says Microsoft Bus Driver should be loaded in your system before intalling Realtek Audio Drivers...which from what I've read seems to be a pretty common problem online I had this before and was able to fix the problem using help from this page: http://geekswithblogs.net/lorint/archive/2006/06/11/81540.aspx but now nothing seems to work anyone got any ideas? Also when I try to adjust the volume it tells me that I have no active mixer devices available either...
I went home for lunch today and was able to switch out the vid card that came with my comp back into my pc and audio works again...but I uninstalled my vid drivers for the old one so it looks weird still till I get off from work. So it has to be the new card right? How would I resolve this problem? The new card is beefier so I want that one for gaming but what good is gaming or videos without sound lol?
Well I've installed my old card back earlier today as well as the drivers for it (Radeon 9250) from here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/radeon-prer300-xp.aspx Have sound, have video. All this without having to reinstall the audio drivers again, apparently they were still there. As soon as I hooked up the old card and rebooted I had audio again. Is there any way to install both cards at once without having problems without purchasing a sound card?

After getting back from work I installed the old drivers again and the comp was working fine then I connected the new card and removed the old one along with a stick of 1g of ram...and got a bsod flash and it restarts I remove the ram and it still does it put the new ram back in romove the new card and reinstall the old and it boots fine again so its not the ram. I connect the new vid card again and remove the old card go into safe mode it boots fine I try to install drivers that came with cd (worked last night) and now it says "setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit." Again this is after the installation of the drivers on the disc went off without a hitch last night. Any ideas guys?
OK, lol last problem fixed. Went into Safe Mode, right clicked My Computer > Properties > Hardware > installed drivers manually that way and now no more BSOD....but still no sound from new card. DDP I will try the drivers that you suggested although I believe I already have those and tried them unsuccessfully, but I will double check and let you know, thanks for your help with this problem!
Go into control panel -> sounds and audio devices and the hardware tab. Change the default hardware for playing sound from 'HDMI Audio' or something like that to 'Realtek HD Audio'
Under hardware all I see is this: HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-H20L OB9712X CFZ301T SCSI CdRom Device ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI AA01 Audio Codecs Legacy Audio Drivers Media Control Devices Legacy Video Capture Devices Video Codecs At the bottom the only options are Trubleshoot and Properties aside from the OK, Cancel and (Grayed out) Apply, how would I set a default?
Doesn't sound like you're in the right place. Go the control panel (switch to classic view then go to Sounds and Audio Devices) then go here: The drop down box should include your RealTek Audio (remember you don't want digital audio if it's there, just the normal HD Audio)
FIXED! I got bored and started reading other things and then I got annoyed by this unknown device I had never installed when I first had this problem and found out I could resolve that issue by installing a driver or going to BIOS (recommended). Well I couldn't find the driver since all the links provided were dead so I got lazy went into BIOS couldn't find the setting I was looking for but stumbled on one that said On-Board audio --> Auto. So I figured I'd change it to On instead and....it WORKED! Thanks for all your help guys! God's bless, salaam!
