I recently installed a fresh copy of windows 7. I noticed the fan was kind of loud. So I unplugged everything from the back and took apart the case. I cleaned up as much dust as I could. Unplugged some stuff inside to remove the fan and clean the heatsink. Put everything back as it should be. I then put back the panels and all the plugs and cords accordingly. I noticed the monitor was blank after turning on the pc. It says No Input Signal for HDMI and VGA. Everything was working properly before I unplugged and cleaned the inside. I thought it was something to do with the HDMI cable maybe. I switched to DVI/VGA and get the same thing. The pc lights up and fans spin, but the monitor, keyboard, and mouse do not light up. I remember I did the same thing with XP last year to clean the inside, but everything would turn on properly. So is this something related to the newly installed OS or did I short out the motherboard or something? Anyone have a clue? I have been searching elsewhere but I get no where. I'd appreciate any quick help. Thanks in advance.
It is almost certainly something related to the cleaning. Make sure all your plugs are nice and tight.
I only removed 2 plugs. 1 was for the cpu fan and the other was a small one connecting the psu to the mobo.I know I put those back securely. I also checked other plugs and they seem fine. Only thing I did inside was swipe out dust bunnies from the heatsink and other parts of the mobo with a Qtip. The rest of the area I just blew air from my mouth. Let's say I accidentally spit a little onto the mobo, would that be enough to cause a short or anything? I have a feeling I did something to cause a short in the mobo maybe.
reconnect all the power connectors to the motherboard from the psu. reseat all cards, ram & cables on motherboard & drives. reset the cmos as have found that to work sometimes to kick start a stubborn system.
So basically take everything that is connected to the motherboard off, then put it back? Someone suggested I take all the ram out and start it up. I am supposed to hear a beep, but hear nothing at all. Is my motherboard fried? What is cmos? I never heard of that before?
I unplugged and replugged everything that connected to the motherboard. Took out the gfx and tuner card. Used the onboard video card and only used 1 ram stick. It booted and loaded windows. The CPU fan spins way too fast, but the monitor, keyboard, mouse worked. I turned it off and put in another matching ram stick and the fan still spins high. The monitor now flashes from picture to blank screen every half second. Is the 2nd memory stick bad?
I figured out the fan thing, but the monitor still flickers. I tried a 3rd stick by itself and same monitor problem. I have 4 sticks at 1GB each. 2 Samsung (came with the HP pc) and 2 Crucial I bought less than a year ago. Is there a problem with the gfx card or ram?
originally i took everything out and used the onboard video with 1 ram that worked ok so i put in the 2nd stick monitor then flickered tried 3 of the 4 by itself monitor still flickered even with the 1st ram that was decent i just put back the video card with 1 ram and everythings working fine im going to put all the ram in now
i pretty much had enough of this and put everything in when i tried each stick 1 at a time they all loaded up windows fine well i only tried 3 out of 4, i figured those odds were good enough the flickering was due a bad onboard video card or something anyways problem fixed thanks for the help guys
