Just seen today that UPC no longer carry the ITV channels as part of their packages, another reason if any was needed to switch to the Sat scene or Freesat, and dump them.

Would having no ITV 2 etc, p**s you off that much that you would switch?

Never thought of the date thing, as I don't have UPC cant check for myself, but they are still available FTA.

It's bad enough that they charge a small fortune for channels that are all basically free, but to take them away without notice is a disgrace.

Bah, have to say bit of a piss poor explanation, considering they are FTA chans on SAT and anyone in Ireland can get the chans, I liked em myself, some good stuff on em like the old programmes, Minder, Sweeney etc

Yes gunnerpa that dish in Dunnes will be fine and here is a link to the channels available on it totally free http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055520627 and if you have a Saorview compatable TV you can also get RTE/TV3 etc again totally free of charge, or again if you hook yourself a dish you can buy a combi HD box where you will get all the above channels, all the FTA HD channels, RTE HD etc all on one box.

I have to say its nice to see this cable provider finaly get what they deserve and hope many people cop on and leave them by switching to sat. Lets not forget that when they dicided to give us ITV one year ago they also used this as an explantion to giving us another price increase. Now they removed all of these channels and not reduce the price to customers accordingly.

October 2009, I bought me a cheapy ross all in one free satellite kit from b&q just to test it out before thinking about going to sky. imagine my suprise to find firstly the picture quality compared UPC is far superior. Imagine my surprise to find that just even with all the free tv channels on the sat(itvs, bbcs, movie channels, etc) are very very good keeping me very happy day in day out. Keeping me glued infact.

So last month I finally got around to rewiring the house so I can have sat tv in all rooms, bought new sat lnbs & receivers from tvtrade website (cheapest I seen so far for Irish customers). Now I have great tv at home.

Free TV with good channels, No bills, happy days.
Last 12months I 've been paying for service I rarely watch.

I just this week have said bye bye to UPC!
My only regret is that I'm kicking myself that I didn't do all this a year ago.
After all the problems, bad tv quality, complaints and futile arguments with them over the last 6 years I'm finally free and finally happy with what I've got...

In my opinion, if everybody knew how good even the FTA Satellite is I think UPC would have no customers left... esp now with very little good channels to offer the people...

if you get a combo box such as the edison, you get all the irish chans such as RTE, TV3, E4 (what you pay sky for) etc, the FTA sat chans and HD chans, BBC1, BBC HD and ITV HD, you will basically get a better line up than UPC provide at present,

UPC had all the ITV chans when they started out in Ireland, they went the way of the Dodo, then they came back and now gone again, these as FTA chans which can be picked up by a basic FTA box and sat dish! So how they can explain pulling the service with what they did is beyond me, when the chans are available in Ireland anyways! me thinks this is down to money, not viewing rights on programmes,

now I will say their Phone and BBAND is miles ahead of Eircom prices or anyone elses, great speeds on em.

Absolutely agree with you Mickah as that was my very first thought when I learned of this few days before they dropped them.

I forgot to add on my post that its only a few months ago earlier this year that they upped the price again after removing channels and giving no new channels back in return.

This is not fair to the customers. If one follows the pattern the most likely natural conclusion is that its about money me thinks.

deffo, if you were to scroll the chans gone in the last say 6 months, all the itvs, thats 4 chans, hallmark, two bravos, chan 1, MTV Shows is gone, Sky 3, thats 10 I can think of from the top of my head, what did we get? two living chans rebadged by Sky, pick TV and thats about it

I mean if you look at what you get using the Edison box I mention, all the terrestrial chans in Ireland via a little aeriel (rte1, rte2, Tv3, 3e, tg4,), all the Sat chans including some HD chans, thats basically what you get from UPC, ok, no disco chans or nat geos etc, but, for little money, you have a good line up and using the edison its a PVR box and CCAM capable if you so desire,

But yep a lot to be had once you have a dish

Once you have a dish set up the box you get is up to you, If you want HD get yourself a HD box, If you are wanting the Irish Channels and FTA Channels get yourself a combi box like the one mentioned by MICKAH. If you are planning on card sharing you will need an internet connection.
