im using TMPGEnc to convert an avi file to an MPEG file and when it finished, the movie played fine, but there was no sound. i got help and extracted the audio and saved it as a wav file and put that as my audio source and converted the file, but still no sound when i play back the new MPEG file on my computed or my DVD player. ive looked everywhere but nobody seems to know what to do. can anybody help me?!

i followed the advice of the links you gave me, but it gave me the message "no audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format." Any ideas? thanks
i already have the ac3 codec that is needed downloaded, but still the message came up. i tried doing audio - direct stream copy instead of full processing mode and it worked fine, but there still was no sound when i converted it to MPEG.
Have you tried converting the extracted wav (presumably ac3) to a regular wav first. Download px3conv from here: http://www.divxcrawler.com/software.htm and then feed the new wav into tmpgenc
the extracted file is already a regular wav, but thanks anyway. the thing i don't get is why my regular avi files play fine (since i have the ac3 codec downloaded) but when i convert them to MPEG files, they dont have sound. do i need a separate codec for playing MPEG files as opposed to AVI files?
