If you have burned DivX files to a data dvd and played them on your standalone without problems, then you have a DivX compatible player.

Although DivX and XviD are nominally interchangeable, some XviD files will not play properly on the machine (no audio is typical).

You either use a 4cc changer rewrite the codec information that the player is reading - and hope it accepts it.
Or, recompress the file with VirtualDub and the DivX codec.
Or, convert the troublesome file to DVD format.

    The 4cc changer is simple.
Browse to the file, then select the new file header from the drop down menu..
This example, the file is xvid, XVID and I changed it to divx, DX50
Note the upper and lower case.

I use DVD-RW disks - mainly because I don't intend to keep the file, thus no wastage.

When this method fails, then converting from XviD to DivX is the only way to go.
It takes minutes as opposed to 1/2 second for the 4cc changer.
