I recently updated my DivX codec because the old codec was causing me issues with opening folders on my computer (dont ask me why, I have no idea). Since i downloaded the codec everything worked properly until i went to watch some old movies that i had downloaded about a month ago. The new movies that I have work perfectly but it seems that even some that i acquire will not play sound. I have ran g-spot and everything seems to be working, but i have no sound. I have tried it in Win Media player 10 and real player and no sound from either of them. I went and installed an older version of DivX and i got sound from the files taht were not working previously, but the new files had sound, but a green screen. Can you please help me,
DivX is a video codec. It should have nothing to do with sound. Explorer crashing is due to MS' buggy thumbnail shell. regsvr32.exe /u shmedia.dll disables it. regsvr32.exe shmedia.dll to restore. Since you went to the trouble of loading GSpot, some info might have been nice. Like what audio the files use. mp3? AC3? mplayer or VLC should work, since they don't rely on/use installed dshow filters.
I wish I could show you what Gspot shows me. I rendered the files that i have concern with, and it shows that there is video, but no audio paths. It also shows that I Do have 3 compatible codecs, but for some reason they dont play on my player. Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (profesional) ffdshow Audio Decoder and MPEG Layer-3 Decoder. I tried to use one of the players that you mentioned, but I dont like how it works. This is so strange, because these files played in the past and now they dont seem to work. Thakns for your help.
Here are some screen shots of my problems. THis is with numerous files and I have no idea what to do. I know there was sound on these movies before. http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/6442/gspot15eh.jpg http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/2555/gspot24ua.jpg http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/3225/gspot31nv.jpg
mp3 audio. Should be no problem since windows can handle it by default. You must have screwed things up. Have you been installing codec packs? Try re-registering quartz.dll (default avi splitter) and l3codecx.ax (default mp3 decoder).
THe problem started after I installed the latest xvid codec. I downloded the world cup games from Dimension and I could watch them after the instal. What I have done is gotten rid of all my codecs, started from scratch, and now I can watch all the old stuff but i can not watch the soccer matches. Sucks
XviD codec should make no difference. All it does is add a couple of vidc.XVID registry entries and register xvid.ax. Can't see how it would effect mp3 decoding at all. You originally said DivX, not XviD though. Doesn't really matter since DivX can decode XviD. Also an older version of XviD (not too old) should have no problems decoding newer XviD encodes. XviD is still MPEG-4 Part 2 ASP compliant and basically always has been.
