I just bought a Panasonic 50PX60U (2 HDMI inputs) and a Onkyo HTS694 (receiver has 2 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output). My cable box has HDMI, Onkyo DVD Player that came with the system which has HDMI. I tried hooking the cable and dvd player to the tv through HDMI and optical out of the tv into the receiver but had no sound. I then hooked the cable & dvd player HDMI to the receiver and HDMI out of the receiver into the tv and left the optical still plugged in. When I turned on the tv the screen popped up 'Your HDTV doesn't support HDCP use the composite connections. I then un-hooked the HDMI from the receiver to the tv and hooked up the composite (still left the optical)and finally got sound through the speakers but no picture.

I am totally confused on what to do, any help would be appreciated. I tried calling Panasonic and Onkyo but kept getting a busy signal.

You probably need to go into the cable box setup menus, and set the output for HDMI. It doesn't automatically use it. Some cable company boxes, have HDMI outputs, but they don't work. They say they're for future use. Check with cable company, to make sure HDMI is enabled on their boxes.......

You'll need to go into your A/V receiver's setup menus, and assign the optical input you're using, to whatever is hooked up to it. You may need to do the same thing for the HDMI, for input and output. TV should automatically detect the HDMI, but the receiver and cable box won't. Double check your receiver's owner's manual, for info on assigning digital inputs and outputs.
    Good luck!
