I just tried using my Acer notebooks line-in jack for the first time.
I used an a/v cable that has the red/white/yellow connectors on one end, and one back connector on the other end.

I plugged the composite audio cables into the audio out my cable box, and the black connector into the line-in on the notebook.
I used nero wave editor 4 to record and save in .wav format. The result is noisy, scratchy, humming, hissing. I tried lowering the volume on the cable box... did not work.
What did I do wrong, and what is a recommended program to record in .wav format?

Now, I plugged a white stereo cable into the line-out on my ipod dock and the other end into the line-in on the pc... played the audio through nero wave editor and it sounds fine, as long as I lower the db level. The default is 100db, that makes the audio distorted. When I lower it to around 15db to 30db the audio sounds fine.
So, why would this work better with a stereo cable instead of the a/v cable?
