Hi, I am looking for some answerss to some really simple questions and I was wondering if someone could help...OK, here goes....

    1) My xbox is chipped (with what chip I am not sure) and I would like to install a dashboard - does the chip kind matter or are they all similar? Currently I see the standard xbox interface when I start up.
    2) what does softmod mean?
    3) If I do install a dah, is it possible to return the xbox to it's original state and if so, how hard is this to do?

    Thanks alot

1.all chips are basicly simular as i think.
2.a softmod is basically a mod without any acsess hardware than what is already in it. you basically put your mod on your hard drive instead of on a chip.
    3. i couldent help you.

    In my experiences...

    1) if your chip is installed, try starting the xbox up by pressing the eject button. On my xbox, I have the Xenium SP.ICE mod chip. When I press the eject button, it takes me to the modded dashboard. From there, you can select something called the launch menu, and setup your retail kernel launch, which in layman's terms means you can manually launch the regular xbox software by doing that.

    2) softmodding is when you tweak your xbox into thinking it has a mod chip when it really doesn't. This is done so you can FTP (file transfer protocol), which is fancy talk for wirelessly accessing your xbox's hard drive. Both hardmodding and softmodding give you the same result. If you want a tutorial on it, just ask and I'll post it.

    3) like I said before, my modded dash automatically comes up when I turn on the box by pressing the eject button. All mod chips should come with a standard dash built in. What you choose to do with this dash such as upgrade your hard drive, mess with your internet settings, etc, is up to you. You can do alot with the dash, and also like I said before, you can set up the retail kernel (xbox generic operating system). So in essence, your xbox is "normal" in some respects.

The cool thing about the mod chip is that you can use it, or just let it sit there and do nothing. Hope this helps, and if you need the modding tutorial, just let me know and I'll post it for you.

You will need two thing when you get your chip. A hacked bios and some sort of install disk. Do some more research to find out which bios you need, it will depend on your chip and Xbox version, and get it from xbins. The install (either Slayers or AID) you can get there as well.
