I want to clean out my cabinets of old VHS movies and save space by converting them to DVD. I have Windows XP with DVD+R burner and I also have an NEC DL external burner. What hardware and what software would I need? Are those VHS/DVD recorders able to do the task? or is the computer the only way to convert the movies? Does anyone have the patience of explaining to me like im a 5 yr old? Or as Im sure that someone has already asked this, show me which thread I can find it on?
Nemesees.... Drop down to Home Theatre. Check under DVD Recorders. You will find what works and what doesn't along where to find thr units. I personally prefer using the PC because of quality and the final product. I began about seven months ago and passed 300 completions both on VHS and Beta. I wanted quality above all else. Just remember the final product will not be better than what you began with. My final DVDs's are approximately that. I would say, but I could be wrong, converting using a DVD recorder will not give the quality as that rendered by the PC....Texas Outlaw..
found an old thread of mine... this is how i recorded vhs to dvd i recorded vhs to the hdd using a tv tuner and used ulead to convert to dvd format good luck tigger I have found the solution to my problem: using winfasttv2000xp deluxe i copy to hdd drag & drop into ulead and save "trimmed movie" click "share" output disk format dvd add video create disc image open dvdshrink open file and click "burn tmp" after analysing click "reauthor" either double click or drag title 1 to your dvdshrink on l/s (compilation side) click "backup" thats it....i did not get in depth of process but that should help out anyone who needs a boost. its a long process and there maybe a quicker solution. i'm to cheap to purchase TMPGEnc and wanted to use the software i have.
T Outlaw I tried looking in HOME THEATER category and even used the 'search' option. It will take me some time to read through them until I find a good how-to thread. Thanks for recommending the use of a PC rather than using a dvd recording system. tigger I dont have a tv tuner/video card. Are they expensive? I dont want to spend a lot money for a couple days worth of recording.
not expensive at all http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122221 here's a link to the one i have....$30.00 at newegg leadtek tv2000xp rm pci interface tuner card w/remote control this one is a pain in the but to fit in the pci slot, it's cheap and works fine. good luck tigger
nemesees.... The only card in the lesser cost catagory I would recommend is the Hauppauge PVR-150. It does a good job, and can be used for other recordings. The output quality is very good. If you will go back and read the forums dealing with this subject I believe you will understand where I am coming from. Just remember you will be hard pressed to improve on the original tape recording. That is unless you rip from a DVD.... Texas Outlaw
