A few years ago I used Norton Ghost and I created an image that spanned four DVD+RWs (Mitsumi). The backup has now become long obsolete and I would like to use the DVD+RWs for other purposes (mainly backup with Acronis). However, with at least one of the disks there are major problems deleting the image file or re-formatting. I have tried Roxio, Nero, Alcohol as well as related Linux utilities all giving me different error messages. Essentially, it is an "unknown" error that prevents information to be written to the disc. Is this something related to the way Norton Ghost is protecting an image file or is this a problem with the disc? Are there any diagnostic utilities or other tools that can be used to "fix" this DVD+RW?
I'd guess there is a problem with the disk if the others are reformatting OK. This happens to me also from time to time when a RW I've been using doesn't reformat or erase. I just pitch them in the trash or save them for skeet shooting.
