not enough space

hi all.
tried copying hitch in nero, it told there wasn't enough space on the disc for copying.
film was 8GB disc to copy on was 4.7GB. is there a way i can condence the film so i can copy onto a 4.7GB disc to play in a normal DVD player.
as you may gather i am new to all this copying film malarchy

 

There is a free program called DVD Shrink that will compress dvd movies. Read this guide
